Marlon's Journal Day 1, Year 1 SR part 1

When it all began...

Marlon’s Journal Year 1, Day 1 SR

Looking back on that day, I realize that it was, after a little debate, the beginning. The beginning when everything started to change and most of what I had come to expect from the world faded away into its pages of history. To say it began with any one person is entirely inaccurate, Hell in truth it didn’t start with any of them. It started in Chicago but the ripples of the actions there did not hit my place of hiding until 3 years past.
All on the same night, as if ancient and powerful forces in the universe began a new game of chess, many pieces came into play and at the time I could not have told you which of them was royal and which was pawn and I certainly could not have guessed that I was one of them.

For me the evening began when I was asked to deliver a message to Alita Drake, A local emissary of the Unseelie Accords and a were-lynx. She offered many dignitaries the graceful position of sending messages, gifts and other deliveries of note through a respectable and reliable third party. She had about her a grace and poise that few do these recent years. My message to her was on such business. Lady Edda Luciano-Gotti had request Alita’s presence that evening to what I had no doubt was an exchange. Later I would learn that Alita was to deliver a sizable sum of money to House Demus. If only Edda had known Alita’s troubled history with the matriarch of that House, Lady Demus, she would have likely arranged another means of transport, and I wish she had.

Alita had been attacked on her way to House Demus while in her lynx form by a large assailant. It was the beginning of a night of problems for her.

Elsewhere in the city a “man” the papers would later identify as “The Child Lurker” had begun an odd spree of rescuing and returning children to their homes. It was an odd series of events that followed that one, and what was stranger was not who but ‘what’ he was.

Having a package sent to them wasn’t the only activity House Demus had going on that night. The 3rd oldest daughter, Raya, for reasons that later would become clear and revolutionary, had picked a fight she couldn’t win. That by its self was not was surprising given Raya’s habits, but what followed was. A new comer to town, Jean Thomas, had found her along the side of the road and without questioning, he decided to heal her. An unusual gift it took a great deal of time to track down, for me. I made a note to keep better tabs on new comers and specifically Jean after the events of that night had been revealed to me. Though I do still wonder how many lives were lost because he choose to save that one.

Lastly the events of the evening seemed to have circled back around to me. It usually does but on this night it did happen a little faster, I took note of that. You see I’ve done a lot of work setting up the information flow in Seattle to go to and from myself, I’m a sort of hub or network that sooner or later all information passes through. It was for these reasons that an older acquaintance passed through The Midnight to see me. He brought with him a rookie detective named Madison Avery. Not a terribly unusual as Mr. Malak was a detective himself, of the _____ Crimes unit. Madison had found herself on the path of “The Child Lurker” and needed information to track him. She had earlier that evening investigated the Carter household, where a newly born named Danny had been returned after disappearing 8 hours ago during a stroll in the park. After speaking with me she would be called away by “The Lurker’s” next move.
